I’ve been meeting friends in Sadang for nearly 15 years, since high school. I live in southern Gyeonggi, so it’s often where I meet friends who live in Seoul. This time, catching up after a year apart turned into a full evening of jeon, beer, a short subway ride and karaoke.

I visited on 4 October 2026 with two friends. We started around Sadang on Lines 4 and 2, then continued to Seoul National University Station on Line 2. The later stops are in that second neighborhood, rather than within walking distance of Sadang.

Here’s how our night went.

The route at a glance

Sadang Station → Imone Jeonjip → Gandan Beer → Line 2: Nakseongdae → Seoul National University Station → Slad Hookah → Starverse Coin Karaoke

The three of us spent ₩206,600 on food, drinks, the lounge and karaoke: ₩50,000 + ₩88,600 + ₩59,000 + ₩9,000. This is our group total; subway fares and the journey home are not included.

We were out for about 7 hours 40 minutes. I arrived at 16:50 on 4 October and headed home at 00:30 the following morning.

Opening details checked on 12 October 2026. Holiday hours and temporary closures can differ from the regular schedule.

  1. Start

    Start at Sadang Station

I arrived at Sadang Station at 16:50 to meet my friends. Our first stop was Imone Jeonjip, one of the jeon restaurants along the nearby streets. Jeon are Korean pan-fried dishes, often made with vegetables, fish or meat in an egg coating.

  2. Arrived

    Imone Jeonjip

I arrived at Imone Jeonjip at 16:58. We ordered modeum-jeon, an assorted platter, for ₩29,000, and our bill here came to ₩50,000 with drinks. The platter had a mix of fish, perilla leaf, mushroom, tofu, meat patties, zucchini and peppers. For our group of three, it was plenty for a first stop before moving on.

Modeum-jeon: a generous mixed platter to share at our first stop.

Jeon and makgeolli, Korean rice wine, are a familiar pairing. Our table tried Jangsu makgeolli and Hwangchil makgeolli, as well as Cass beer. I liked having several kinds of jeon on one shared platter: it gave us something to pick at while catching up, instead of everyone ordering a separate main. The mix of vegetables, tofu, fish and meat made this feel like a full first stop for our group of three.

There are several jeon restaurants along this stretch. Imone is the one I would choose again, and next time I would like to try pajeon, a scallion pancake, with makgeolli.

  3. Arrived

    Gandan Beer

I arrived at Gandan Beer at 19:01. Red lighting, decorations around the counter and the reflective ceiling made the interior fun to look around. There were lots of details that made me want to take photos, so the change of setting was part of the appeal after the jeon restaurant. The music was not too loud when we visited, and there were other groups of friends enjoying their evening.

Cheese-covered egg-roll pizza topped with olives at Gandan Beer
The egg-roll pizza was a first for me.

Our bill was ₩88,600: three dark draft beers, nine creamy draft beers, fried chicken skin and an egg-roll pizza. The dark beer wasn’t my favorite, but I really liked the creamy draft. The egg-roll pizza was new to me, and I thought it tasted good.

We scanned the table’s QR code or tapped its NFC tag to open the menu and order. The menu on my visit offered Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.

  4. Arrived

Slad Hookah, near Seoul National University Station

I arrived at Slad Hookah at 21:34. To get here, we left Sadang and took Line 2 toward Seoul National University Station: Nakseongdae is the intermediate stop, so it was two stops from Sadang.

Opening details: Sun–Thu 19:00–02:00 the next day; Fri–Sat 19:00–04:00 the next day. Check latest details

One of my friends was interested in a hookah lounge, so this became our next stop. The place had purple lighting and a relaxed atmosphere, and the owner was friendly. Our bill was ₩59,000, covering the lounge’s shisha service and three whisky highballs.

This part of the evening brought us into the neighborhood around Seoul National University Station. Sharosu-gil is another name to keep in mind when exploring this area.

  5. Arrived

    Starverse Coin Karaoke

I arrived at Starverse Coin Karaoke at 23:13. We paid ₩9,000 for an hour, and I liked how clean the place was. This was the singalong finish to a reunion that had already stretched across two neighborhoods. I usually choose rap because I’m not much of a singer; some of my international friends know Korean songs better than I do. Sharing songs was a fun way to round off the night, although the timing made getting home more complicated.

Location update: The location I visited has closed, and Starverse has moved across the street to B1, 169 Gwanak-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, listed as Starverse Coin Karaoke Branch 2 (스타버스코인노래연습장 2호점). The arrival time, price and experience above are from my visit to the old location. Current listed hours at the new location are Sun–Thu 10:30–01:00 the next day and Fri–Sat 10:30–02:00 the next day. By then, I knew the journey home needed a different plan. In the excitement of seeing friends again, we had let the night run late. I eventually found a night bus home. I would check the last train for my exact station, direction and day before starting karaoke next time.

  6. Next day · end

    Head home

I headed home at 00:30 the following morning, about 7 hours and 40 minutes after arriving at Sadang. That covers the outing, including the stops and travel between the two neighborhoods, but not the journey home.

My take

5 / 5

We started with jeon and makgeolli, then spent the rest of the evening at bars and singing karaoke.

If I go again, I’ll try pajeon with makgeolli at the first stop. I would also keep a closer eye on the journey home before committing to late-night karaoke.

Would I recommend this route? Yes, for an evening with friends. You can finish after the Sadang food-and-beer stops, or continue on Line 2 as we did if you have more time.

Before staying for karaoke, check your last useful subway train. Times vary by line, direction and day, and every connection needs to work.
