A Solo Day from Myeong-dong Station: Vintage Coffee and Kalguksu
A Myeong-dong Station solo route with NYUNYU browsing, Café Coin coffee, Myeongdong Kyoja noodles, the cathedral and Shinsegae screen. Costs and map.

I don’t often return to the same café outside my own neighborhood. Café Coin is an exception: I’ve been three times, and its old-fashioned room, good coffee and friendly service keep drawing me back.
On 19 October 2026, I built a solo morning from Myeong-dong Station around that coffee stop and a bowl of kalguksu. I added some browsing at NYUNYU, a walk by the cathedral and a look at Shinsegae’s huge screen before heading home.
The route at a glance
Myeong-dong Station → NYUNYU Myeongdong → Café Coin, branch 1 → Myeongdong Kyoja No.1 → Myeongdong Cathedral → Shinsegae Square screen
I started at 09:25 and headed home at 13:00: 3 hours 35 min. My coffee was ₩6,000 and lunch was ₩12,000, so I spent ₩18,000 on food and coffee. Transport and shopping are outside that total.
The arrival times below describe my morning. They aren’t walking-time estimates, and you can linger longer over the coffee or browsing.
- Start
Start at Myeong-dong Station
I started at Myeong-dong Station on Line 4 at 09:25. I wanted a relaxed visit rather than a full shopping itinerary: a few things to browse, somewhere I already liked for coffee, then lunch and a walk.

Myeong-dong Station on Line 4. I sometimes expect Myeong-dong to be expensive because it caters to so many visitors. Choosing where to sit and eat made this morning feel much more reasonable than that expectation.

Browse the shelves at NYUNYU
I arrived at NYUNYU’s Myeongdong branch at 09:32 after my girlfriend recommended it. The black exterior and yellow lettering are useful landmarks; this is the branch at 22 Myeongdong 4-gil.
Inside, I found rows of hair accessories, colorful socks and small gift items. The prices I saw seemed reasonable, and it was easy to spend time comparing little things rather than looking for one large purchase.

Rows of hair accessories to browse. If you enjoy small accessories or want to look for a compact gift, this is the sort of browsing stop I’d add before coffee. I’d start with the hair clips, scrunchies and socks I saw, then see what catches your eye.
Hours: Daily 09:00–22:45; the listing states it opens year-round. The gift shop is on the fourth floor. NYUNYU Myeongdong’s current location and hours.

A café I keep coming back to
I arrived at Café Coin’s Myeongdong No.1 branch at 10:10 and ordered Coin blend coffee for ₩6,000. The wood beams, chandeliers, marble-topped tables and mismatched antique details give it a character I really like.
It feels old-fashioned without feeling dull. Even the cup and saucer are part of the pleasure of sitting here. I liked the coffee, and the staff were friendly during my visit.

My ₩6,000 Coin blend coffee. This was my third visit. I usually try somewhere new when I’m away from my neighborhood, but I’m happy to come back here. It’s a place I’d recommend to a friend visiting Korea.
Hours: Tue–Sat 09:30–23:00; Sun–Mon 09:30–22:30. No regular weekly closed day, break time or last-order time is separately listed. This is branch 1 at 10 Myeongdong 6-gil. Check Café Coin’s current listing.

A satisfying bowl at Myeongdong Kyoja No.1
I arrived at Myeongdong Kyoja No.1 at 11:40 and ordered kalguksu for ₩12,000. This is the branch at 10 Myeongdong 10-gil, rather than the separate main restaurant.
I considered adding a plate of dumplings, but the dumplings already in the noodle bowl were enough for me. The broth was rich, there were plenty of toppings, and I finished lunch comfortably full without extra noodles or rice.

My kalguksu bowl, with dumplings already included. On this visit, I told the staff my order while waiting, paid, then went to the seat they assigned. Staff brought the food over. There was kimchi at the table to serve yourself, so I took a little at a time.
The queue was much longer when I left. I’d go earlier in the lunch period if I could, while still allowing for a wait.
Hours: Daily 10:30–21:00, last orders 20:30. No weekly closed day or break time is currently listed; check holiday notices separately. Myeongdong Kyoja No.1 on Naver.

A calmer walk around the cathedral
I arrived at Myeongdong Cathedral at 12:10. When I was younger and came into Seoul to visit Myeong-dong, this was one of the places I wanted to see first.
The brick buildings around it share a similar tone, and the whole setting makes me feel calmer. I enjoyed looking at the architecture and watching people stop for photos. It was a gentle change of pace after the shopping streets and busy lunch.

The cathedral’s brick façade and tower. Access: My stop was a walk around the grounds. The current Naver listing doesn’t provide a separate visitor opening schedule, and church services take priority over sightseeing. Check the cathedral’s official notices and Mass information if you want to enter, and keep photos and conversation respectful of worship.

A final look at Shinsegae Square’s screen
I reached the Shinsegae area at 12:40 to look at the large outdoor media screen. I work in marketing, so seeing an advertising display at this scale interests me in a different way from an ordinary shop window.
I watched from the Seoul Central Post Office side of the road. The long screen is impressive even in daylight, and the moving images gave me a reason to stop for a few minutes before leaving the neighborhood.

The media screen viewed from across the street. Viewing: This is an exterior viewing stop, rather than a visit inside the department store. Screen content and showtimes can change; don’t assume a particular artist or film will appear. Check Shinsegae’s current Main Store information for events and any indoor visit. The department store’s retail hours aren’t the same thing as a guaranteed screen schedule.
- Heading home
Time to head home
I headed home at 13:00, after coffee, lunch and a few very different corners of Myeong-dong.
My take
5 / 5
Good coffee, a satisfying bowl of noodles and enough variety for a morning on my own: this was a 5 / 5 outing for me. The food and coffee didn’t feel expensive for Myeong-dong, and the route mixed busy streets with places where I could slow down.
If I go again, I’ll follow the same route. Café Coin is already somewhere I return to, and this combination felt right as it was.
